The project is for the creation of an income opportunity through beekeeping for 25 selected unemployed youths in rural communities in Imo. The primary aim of the project is to improve the economic condition of the youth living in rural communities who are unemployed. During the 1 month of training, beneficiaries will learn the basic tools of beekeeping such as Bee Hive Components, Honey Production, Packaging/Honey processing, Marketing/Pricing, Money Management.
According to the Nigerian National of Bureau Statistics (NBS), Imo State recently,reported the highest rate of unemployment in Nigeria with 48.7%. Intervention programs by the government provided little or no adequate opportunities to sustainably empower the rural youth.Most of the government programs are ad-hoc, thus not recognizing the endemic issues facing many rural youths.This project will train 25 youths in the selected communities which creates income and indirect job to over 100 youths.DONATE NOW
Rural Watch Africa Initiative provides alternative livelihood skills through learning the various Bee Hive Components, Honey Production, Packaging/Honey processing, Marketing/Pricing, Money Management. At the end of the training, beneficiaries will be supported with bee making equipment, the strategy of marketing and guidance to start and run own profitable beekeeping business. Beneficiaries are expected to pay a given percentage through cooperative which enables others, benefit in the next phase to reduce unemployment.
The project will help 25 beneficiaries to start their own beekeeping businesses that will generate income for them, their families and at least extra 20 people will have employment opportunity by working with them,and more than 100 indirect jobs created in the community. This youths will no longer be counted among the 21.7 million unemployed Nigerians,and will reduce poverty, crime among youths and increase food production, while reducing pressures on land based natural resources degradation.
