Beekeeping Project Update:

On Friday 10th September 2021, the Rural Watch Africa Initiative (RUWAI) trained some men, youth, and women who are interested in learning modern beekeeping. The event took place at the Oka Civic Hall, Akpakalama.

On 14th July 2022, the RUWAI team led by the Regional Program coordinator Fr. Tobias Uke stormed the community to help the newly trained and established Oka Beekeepers Cooperative, install the bee hives donated to them by the RUWAI.
This empowerment initiative will further contribute to food security in the community, and income generation while preserving the local environment.
Using the modern method of beekeeping, bees are domesticated and populated as against the traditional practice of burning them in a fire thereby reducing the number of bees that enhance agriculture.
